Of Missed Opportunities

How many moments have you missed while thinking of what to shoot or what kind of equipment to use?

Do you really need a high end camera to enjoy shooting? I don't think so. I have shot more photos with my iPhone than with my DSLR, simply because my iPhone is always with me. I still yearn for more equipment of course, but the lack of it would not stop me from enjoying photography.

So if you truly enjoy photography, maybe you can stop finding excuses and just go out and shoot! You never know what you are going to get until you step out to find out. I've always told myself, "Never blame your surroundings for the lack of a subject, blame yourself for not finding one."

This mantra works for me, and I hope it will for you too.

Discovery!

I discovered some old photos taken with my now dead Konica Minolta Dimage Z6 many years back in an old hard disk drive. I love the macro capability of the camera. Just look at these photos!

Sigh, if it's not too expensive to repair, I'd really wanna get someone to clear the fungus inside the lens.

Lalang Fields

I've always wanted to try abstract photography, so when I chance upon someone mentioning the Lalang fields at Punggol road end, I knew I had to find it!

It is so off the beaten track that you will definitely need to be lost yourself before you can stumble upon the place, hahaha! I just hope this place will remain as it is so that there will always be a place to escape to if you are sick and tired of our concrete jungle.

This is my first attempt at abstract photography, hope it works for you!

Fungus IS Growing

Dear Fungi,

I hope you are having truckloads of fun partying on top of my lenses, do try not to copulate too much.

Singapore Botanic Gardens Macro

Today's trip to the Botanic Gardens was truly a fruitful one! It was macro frenzy right from the start, with both Hakim and I constantly looking at things through a magnified perspective.

I also managed to try out macro with the 50mm mounted in reverse. BUT. I gave up in a grand total of 15 minutes. The depth of field is so shallow that whenever the wind causes a slight movement, I will end up with up a completely unusable shot. Damn, wasted $29 on the reverse adapter. PUI!

However things started getting better once I put the Diopter back onto my kit lens. At least it felt like I was in control, not the damn wind. Hahaha.

Here goes!

And ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, the 3 photographs you are going to see next are my pride and joy. They make the 5 hours under the scorching hot sun all worthwhile!

Check these out!

And they were all taken using just the kit lens and the Diopter! Hai, do I really need the 105mm macro? Somebody help me.

And such is the kind of effort we put in just to get a shot. I'm totally proud of us. Hahaha!

Looking forward to your photographs too Hakim! And thank you for holding the plants still, lying on the floor just for our portraits and the good lunch recommendation!

Next up is our night shoot! Woohoo!

Macau!

Macau is so commercialised!

Judging by how hotel lobbies can be decorated with pure gold carvings, I can totally imagine the amount of money pouring into Macau every second - through all the mysterious holes on all casino tables.

Luckily, those casinos haven't took over the entire place yet. There are still some places off the beaten track worth visiting, and somehow they made up for it.

I can't tell you how much I love macro photography. Can't wait for Sunday's shoot! Woohoo!

Hakim, let's kajiao more bugs! And Sandy, you can have a go with the diopter too!
